Thanks for the pics. The first sketch of an S looks like the integral sign: "∫UPER". But integrals have to be with respect to a variable. Does this predict the Game Boy Color remake?

B
UPER MARIO BROS. dx
A

But seriously: Notice how the level map planning sheets are three screens wide, just like the three-screen-wide repeating "clouds" layer in the game. Also notice how the fourth and fifth screens of 1-2 have large block structures whose right edge is aligned to a screen boundary.

That last colored one looks awesome! I wonder why they went with the more basic graphics. ROM limitations?

I think these pictures are also in the booklet that comes with Mario Maker.

I was bored, so I made this based on the picture I think psychopathicteen was talking about:

Instead, for some reasons I read it as Subpar Mario Bros.

Interesting to see that they considered a sort of "tilted" perspective instead of the profile view seen elsewhere.

The girder is also very weird. I like how you're standing on ground that is empty underneath, like a cavern or something.

Wow! That's awesome. How did you create that so quickly?

The perspective reminds me of Pitfall. I wonder if they drew inspiration from it.

Who said it was quickly...

I'm not sure how I didn't think of that... But yeah, it totally is, even copying the hollow ground that at least made sense in Pitfall. In Super Mario Bros's case, I'd think I could jump down there.

It looked better on paper for some reason.
