Best Graphically looking NES games.
We already have a thread about the worst graphically looking NES games (I cannot found it anymore, but I remember it very well), so I'm just wanting to collect info about what games people think looks the best graphically (and not only popular games please).
Here you are the one I can say are way above average :
- Just Breed (each character gets different animated sprites, detailed enemies, not palette swapped)
- Batman (very freaking dark and realistic)
- Mega Man 5 (great backgrounds, cool bosses)
- Mega Man 6 (great backgrounds, cool bosses)
- Kirby's Adventure (lots of animation, it's so cute !)
- Double Dragon 2 (good background, but awesome sprites)
- Double Dragon 3 (good background, but awesome sprites)

I guess there are some I'd like to point out:
- Gargoyle's Quest (very good use of colors and sprites)
- Pugley's Scavenger Hunt (detailed, good use of colors)
- Big Nose The Caveman & Big Nose Freaks Out (nice animations and quite detailed)
There are probably many more, I'll come back here and list them as I remember. I'll probably list many platformers, 'cause that's what I play! =)
EDIT: Got some others:
- Wagyan Land series (nice cartoonish graphics)
- Seirei Densetsu Lickle (awsome animations and good backgrounds)
- Joy Mech Fight (good looking fighting game, pretty cute too)
- Bucky O'Hare (very good looking platformer)
- Sword Master (good graphics, cool parallax effects)
- Gargoyle's Quest (very good use of colors and sprites)
- Pugley's Scavenger Hunt (detailed, good use of colors)
- Big Nose The Caveman & Big Nose Freaks Out (nice animations and quite detailed)

The best graphics can be found on Batman: Return of the Joker, by Sunsoft. Gremlins 2 also has nice gfx.

Looks somewhat good, effectively, but not so groundbreaking.tokumaru wrote: - Gargoyle's Quest (very good use of colors and sprites)
Well, they seem to have quite simple graphics, for what I've seen. Nothing noticeable, I think.- Pugley's Scavenger Hunt (detailed, good use of colors)
- Big Nose The Caveman & Big Nose Freaks Out (nice animations and quite detailed)
Well, I don't like how they look either. They look very simple, even if some sprites have a cute touch to them.- Wagyan Land series (nice cartoonish graphics)
Noticeable backgrounds !! But average spries if you ask me (not bad).- Seirei Densetsu Lickle (awsome animations and good backgrounds)
Meh... if you like fighting with body-less characters... I found it incredibly confusing.- Joy Mech Fight (good looking fighting game, pretty cute too)
Yeah, nice use of the NES with great character portraits, good BG effects in some places, however, the graphics themselves are nothing much above average I think.- Bucky O'Hare (very good looking platformer)
Oh, this one have awesome backgrounds !!! Very cool effect on title screen too.- Sword Master (good graphics, cool parallax effects)
Very noticeable ! Looks awesome !Moon Crystal (J) is extremely smooth, and looks great.
You gotta be kidding, right ? No, seriously...Fire N Ice (U)
Fantasy Zone 1 + 2 (U) and (J)
Rod Land (J) - this game is also very smooth!
Actually I prefer the graphics in the original Batman. They just look darker and more proportional. The grpahics in ROJ are great, however I think Batman is way too big and so are enemies, and this seriously hurt gameplay (no the graphics themselves are great, just not as much as batman). I remeber Gremlins 2 looked good too.The best graphics can be found on Batman: Return of the Joker, by Sunsoft. Gremlins 2 also has nice gfx.
The cutscenes are great, but honnestly, in gameplay, the graphics are average if you ask me.Ninja Ryukenden/Gaiden 2 & 3
Both are interesting, but both somewhat weird if you ask me (at least they tried something different).Zen the intergalactic Ninja
Abarenbou Tengu
Awesome backgrounds and very good sprites too.Kick Master
Yeah, again awesome cutscenes, but very few animation (just mouths). It doesn't have actual gameplay scenes so doensn't compare too much with other games. But yeah, it drawns awesome anime-styles bitnaps on the NES.C'mon, no-one's seen Metal Slader Glory? Adventure games aren't my thing, but the stills are wonderful.
