Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?

Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
I'm confused. There are two links out there for mappers.
This one is often linked to in this forum. It contains only a handful of mappers.
http://home.comcast.net/~olimar/NES/powerpak_loopy.zip
(and technically: http://home.comcast.net/~olimar/NES/mmc5.zip)
The one actually linked to from retrousb is:
http://www.retrousb.com/downloads/POWERPAK134105.zip
Which one is the newest one?
If the former, then why does the retrousb site not contain the lastest ones?

A lot of people take the one on retrousb and copy loopy's mappers (which are newer) over top of that set.
I have no idea why retrousb doesn't officially add them to the set on the website.

The 1.34 mappers at retrousb do seem to include loopy's mappers, since there's a "LOOPYS README.TXT" included that matches the readme from loopy's zip.

That zip contains mappers by loopy, but not loopy's latest mappers.
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
Have you done a binary comparison (think FC /B) between the two sets?furrykef wrote:The 1.34 mappers at retrousb do seem to include loopy's mappers, since there's a "LOOPYS README.TXT" included that matches the readme from loopy's zip.
Chances are Loopy's are more recent/newer and what's on RetroUSB is older. And here's proof (note the date of my post, by the way). So unless the RetroUSB sets have been updated since my post............
Edit: rainwarrior has effectively said the same thing. I rest my case. :-)
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
My apologies, then.
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
Ok. That is sort of what I had done as I posted this. I went through and compared the modification dates of all the files and put the ones with the newest dates there. And it actually fixed a game that I had reported wasn't working properly. Valkyrie no Bouken by Namco, both the original and my translation, work now. Yeah!rainwarrior wrote:A lot of people take the one on retrousb and copy loopy's mappers (which are newer) over top of that set.

So, isn't loopy the operator of retrousb? Wouldn't having the newest mappers on the site improve the reputation of the device and get him more sales. I mean, just the MMC5 alone (even w/o the music abilities) could make the difference for many people. I know there is a lot of confusion out there with people thinking it can't even do MMC5.
Yeah, this confused me too. The readme simpy needs to contain a date. Then, by looking at the date, we can always tell which is officially the newest. Modification dates can't always be trusted.furrykef wrote:The 1.34 mappers at retrousb do seem to include loopy's mappers, since there's a "LOOPYS README.TXT" included that matches the readme from loopy's zip.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for discussing this.
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
No, bunnyboy runs retrousb, not loopy.
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
Ah, ok. So, bunnyboy runs the site and makes the carts?tepples wrote:No, bunnyboy runs retrousb, not loopy.
Hmm. Even the readme included with the mapper set on retrousb says "loopy's".
Did loopy make all the mappers for the powerpak? Did he design or help design the the power pak?
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
loopy made better versions of mappers early on after the release of PowerPak. He has got nothing to do with RetroUSB besides that. loopy's readme is there because bunnyboy simply copied those files from loopy's mapper package verbatim.DvD wrote:Ah, ok. Thanks so much for clearing that up.thefox wrote: loopy made better versions of mappers early on after the release of PowerPak. He has got nothing to do with RetroUSB besides that. loopy's readme is there because bunnyboy simply copied those files from loopy's mapper package verbatim.
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
34 "planned" mappers, nothing in more than 2 years..
I guess they (retrousb.com) are not interested in improving PowerPak anymore. Sad.

Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
I like some of the kalle mappers for saving. The rest I use is mostly loopy. Right now I'm just patiently waiting for thefox to complete and hopefully sell me one of his fpga composite ppu rgb / s-video output thing and the krikzz famicom everdrive.
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
Do you even need one with your Ultra Famicom?Drakon wrote: Right now I'm just patiently waiting for thefox to complete and hopefully sell me one of his fpga composite ppu rgb / s-video output thing

Actually bunnyboy has confirmed that he's working on a revised PowerPak, to compete with the other upcoming NES/Famicom flashcarts, and that it'll have some unique hardware features, like implementing Scoreboard.deksar wrote:I guess they (retrousb.com) are not interested in improving PowerPak anymore
Re: Which NES PowerPak mappers are the newest?
Where he wrote that? I hope it will support ALL those "planned" mappers.Tricky wrote:Actually bunnyboy has confirmed that he's working on a revised PowerPak
