SNESDEV Game Jam Official Announcement

Post by DashEightMate »

Hey everyone, I'm back after a crazy week. I know I left yall hanging, so I'll cut to the chase: I'm moving forward with the SNESDEV Game Jam!

Here's the itch.io page which does most of the explaining... https://itch.io/jam/snesdev-game-jam. Let me know if I missed anything.

Hope to see you all join!

I can't wait to see the theme.

Will the theme limit the style of game or lend it self to a particular style?

I want to give a theme that is open to many different interpretations. Something you'd have to work into your game but that doesn't completely steer what the game should be.

I also have a question about the point: "The vast majority of your game must be created during the game jam."

Is it okay to reuse/modify an existing, self-written engine for graphics, audio, etc. if you write the entire actual game itself only during the game jam time period? Or does the engine also counts as part of the game?

On the one side, it's okay to use external code by the rules (which also could be a SNES library), but on the other side it might be unfair to those who didn't start anything and really start from scratch? :?

This is wonderful, thanks a lot for making it a reality!

There are already 40 people who joined the Jam, so I guess we'll have a lot of games at the end :)!

Two suggestions / ideas for the Jam:

- Regarding the resources listed on the front page, maybe you should also add a link to PVSNESlib for people who prefer to use C instead of assembly? (link: https://github.com/alekmaul/pvsneslib)

- Will you be looking for sponsor / prize pool (making it a Competition), or do you prefer the Jam to be without prizes (making it a Jam)?
Either way is fine, I'm just asking because some people (like the great @Svambo) offered to contribute to a prize pool, so if you want to go this route I think the community will follow you too.

I'm eager to discover the theme and to participate, this is going to be a wonderful event!

Hey everyone!

Just a reminder that the SNESDEV game jam starts TOMORROW! Nearly 200 people have joined so far, which has completely blown me away. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the jam page and join if you're interested!
