I couldn't find the original thread being buried by all these others, so I just made a new one.
I finally got a PAL SNES system today, and wanted to see what the signal itself looked like for Kirby 3:

PAL composite, well the signal itself, is impressively sharp but just not quite enough to pull out a 10.74mhz pixel clock for the overlapping color areas for obvious reasons. But when there's significant luma differences, surprisingly amount of detail/pixels come through for those higher res dot clock pixels. It wouldn't look that perfect (from the pics) on a consumer set, so there will be some blending. It just doesn't have the ugly luma/chroma pattern interference of NTSC. I need to grab an svideo cable and see what that looks like.
