Up-to-Date NSFE Collection?

Post by RT-55J »

Is there any reasonably up-to-date NSFE collection, whether a website or just a big fat zip, somewhere on the internet? Google is failing me.

Specific places I've tried looking:

- http://slickproductions.org/nsfe.php - This is down and doesn't redirect anywhere (rest in peace disch) (also no I am not going to bug Lenophis about this).

- https://disch.zophar.net/nsfe.php - This is the above site, except from before it split from zophar, so it hasn't been updated since 2005 (I know since none of my contributions are on it)

- Zophar's just has plain NSFs.

- WiiGuy (the fellow who made those "8BitStereo" things) had an NSFE collection on The Shizz forums, but the thread seems to be missing. (This was the most up-to-date archive that I was previous aware of, carrying the torch from slickproductions.)

- https://nsf.joshw.info - This only has NSFs. Some files come with .m3u files (WinAmp playlists) with some metadata (sometimes extracted directly from NSFEs! (sometimes even ones I tagged!)), but to be quite blunt this is unacceptable. Compatibility with those files is very spotty (particularly on mobile chiptune players I've tried).

Where have all the NSFEs gone?

Check out MrNorbert1994's NSF archive, it's the best NSF archive I know of (by far), and is also frequently updated.

In the copy I have here (a little outdated), the NSFE folder has 1600+ files.

Okay. Looking through that collection some more, it's not bad. 1600+ NSFEs ain't nothing to sneeze at, though with over 4400+ NSFs there's still a lot of work to be done (though yeah I'm aware those numbers don't tell the whole story).

Unfortunately, it looks like the last new NSFE was added to that collection in 2018, though I guess that says more about the NSFE tagging scene than anything else (if it even exists anymore).

Thinking of making an NSFE Tagging thread, so there's at least a publicly visible, search-indexable place for it to happen.

How's that sound? Y/N

Actually, the NSFE collection is still there, though you have to register on shizz.org to see it.
Dunno why they made that sub-forum login required.

There is this link which supposedly has the latest NSFEs that was made last year:

Oh dear, I should have been on here a bit sooner, but seeing this thread made just about 2 weeks ago its not that long, but yes I am the one once known as WiiGuy (changed name in 2019), and it has been between pretty much me and Anonymotron from the shizz forum that have been on a NSFe quest of trying to get a master/up to date collection together, it started out as me making NSFe's on my own of nearly the whole US/NTSC library many years ago once finding out about slickproductions, than making my way to the shizz forums and where I then worked with Anonymotron from him making NSFe's and then me double checking and verifying them, sadly it's been very on and off the past couple years, but recently its been an effort to try and switch as many old NSFe's into all the new rips of NSF's that have happened recently, always a work in progress but its slowly making its way.

But anyway much like on the Shizz forum, my signature will always have a link to the Master/As-Up-to-Date NSFe Collection, and I just now put the link in my About section of the Niko's8BitStereo Youtube channel. Norberts NSF collection download does include all the NSFe's I've worked on before, but my signature will always have the most updated collection! I've been pretty bad realizing I need to let others know I have the most up to date NSFe collection for all to download, so I better make sure to let that known! :)

I noticed that NSFE archive is missing Dragon Ball (the first one). It has Dragon Power, but that has a different title screen / cutscene music.
