Wiki image history destroyed on Sept 21 2021?

The vast majority of images on the wiki appear to have had their history destroyed. Example: File:ACBC mirroring diagram.png

They all have the same ">Maintenance script" in place of user, and "== Summary == Importing file" as a comment. All past revisions have disappeared, along with any trace of user history.

All of this appears to have happened on a single day (September 21, 2021).

Sadly the history for images was lost at this time because of how mediaWiki handles exporting/import files.

I am looking into possible solutions to how we can properly restore the history.
