UNROM256

Post by Zoldark »

I recently got into making some Homebrew for Nes myself, but I haven't really made much yet except a NROM demo or two, but I did buy NESMaker that creates games for UNROM512 that is Mapper 30 and from what I have seen those games can work also on UNROM Mapper 2 if you know how to convert them as some developers have done that for there games. At least that does work for Emulators.

Anyway I had this crazy idea for a New Board or Mapper for iNES that would've been a UNROM256 Board that supports at max 256kb of PRG ROM as opposed to 512kb but then I just was reading about UOROM that supports at Max 256kb of PRG ROM so my problem is mostly solved.

Except that I have to create a Homebrew game that uses this UOROM, and then find a UOROM Board to test it on..

So just where can I find or how can I get a UOROM Board?

Actually I found a List of Games and just ordered a copy of Momotarou Dentetsu for Famicom,
but I probably need to get a copy of Paperboy 2 or Championship Karate if only they weren't so expensive.

Are there any other games besides those that use UOROM?

It's easy to modify a standard UNROM board to add the extra latch bit and OR gate to act as UOROM. The only hard part is when the original board has a 28-pin socket for PRG - clearance might be rough.

If you're in the US, Canada, Europe, or Australia, there are also people willing to sell you all-new PCBs suitable for making any popular discrete logic mapper, including UOROM.

Thanks for the info, that is good to know as I was just look through the list of UNROM games and I have quite a few different games, I also just got some extra copy's of the Famicom game Hiryuu no Ken: Ougi no Sho, and I think I might have a extra copy of the NES Rush and Attack that I might could use for making my own board.

Or Maybe I can find some those PCB's on Aliexpress but there search engine doesn't work very well. I can always search for them online.
I did find a Mapper 30 PCB on this french site called Broke Studio.

https://www.brokestudio.fr/product/nes- ... -nesmaker/

Edit I found a store on Ebay that makes PCB's but they said I should send them a rom and then they'll find out if they can make the UOROM board or not, but I am not going send them a Commercial Rom not knowing who it is going too, that seems a little shady to me.

It seems the ReproX PCB Boards can be used for UOROM, if you can find them or buy them in Bulk, but they are currently out of Stock.
They have them on Ebay some times though but I guess I need to get to work on Programing my Homebrew so I'll have a Rom Image to send in that won't land me in any trouble.

Mapper 30 is overkill - it has a lot of extra parts you don't need. (but it's probably workable anyway)

I see brokestudio doesn't have the "assemble it yourself" type of PCB

There's definitely others, but I forget who they are.

Atleast retrostage offers no-solder boards. Just pop in the programmer and flash.
