here's another Fami pirate i just picked up. this is mapper 40.
there's another thread discussing this mapper/pirate, but it's got a completely different PCB with a custom NTDEC chip. this version has no custom chips.
i suspect this cart was made by Co Tung, based on the "Chi Chi Toys" cart shell.
i can also confirm this version of SMB2J is the version with a blank title screen, miscolored cloud, and a stage select code (as explained on the back label!)
manufacture date seems to be late 1989/early 1990. interesting how the PRG is a mask ROM, but the CHR is an EPROM. (i added the sticker. )

CRC32 of this PRG-ROM is BEAD254C, which is a match for a file i already have: "Super Mario Bros 2 (J) [p1].nes"
prg: BEAD254C
chr: F9FE2697
data: 8E010B17
file: EE708827

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2J pirate cart (mapper 40)
I have that under "Super Mario Bros. II+ (HeySung)".
I am still looking for a mapper 40 SMB2J that has 16 KiB CHR ROM. Register $E000 normally only has bits 0-2 defined to select the 8 KiB PRG bank at $C000, but the code sets bit 3 during the ending, yet that does not do anything on existing PCBs. So I hypothesize that there must have been some unfound original PCB that uses register $E000 bit 3 as CHR A13.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2J pirate cart (mapper 40)
if it exists, it hasn't yet been dumped/released. the only SMB2J i know of with a 16KB CHR is Loopy's MMC3 port. even 1990 Super Bros. 4, which also runs on mapper 40 (in fact, the same board as the cart pictured; i own it), still has an 8KB CHR.
