Regarding the PowerPak MMC3, I've been working on a version with more accurate IRQ behaviour, and at this point my confidence in it is fairly high.

The "OUR HERO" screen glitches do not appear with this MAP04.MAP: loopy_mmc3_fix9.zip

I presume they were due to an incorrectly executed IRQ with the old mapper.

Otherwise the PAUSE flicker is visible at about the same frequency as seen in your OP video. If it's caused by the late $2001 turnoff I would guess the old MMC3 implementation would have delayed it more and increased the severity.
