Hi,
I'd like to make myself this translation game on real hardware.
I have a custom 163 board that handle wram.
It seem this game is using a different saving method, it doesnt rely on external wram.
It seem to be saving inside the internal 163 ram.

I configured my board to supply vbb to pin 19 & 43.
I also hooked a 6129 battery monitor to cut off the pin 32 from VCC when voltage is below battery level.

The game work but it doesnt hold the save data.
Do I need to configure anything else to make it save correctly?

I don't remember all the differences, but at the very least I think you need a pulldown on M2.

There was already a 47k pull down resistor on m2.
Gotta be something else.

Does it hold save data when you press reset but not turn power off and back on?

No it does not.

Battery voltage is fine and battery monitor supply adequate voltage to namcot 163. Even when system is off.

At this point I think its either the patched rom file or the namcot 163 needs configuration pin to save internally.

Actually i had a monogatari board and put on It hydlide 3 and splatterhouse , i think your problem depends on 163 pins and settings, It really got used in different ways dependin on the game. Actually im struggling trying to convert Dream master on a famista 90 board , probably i Need to add extra ram, i ll try that..

From what i Remember original kajou monogatari only Need 163 saving, translated One Need 163 saving plus wram

I confirm kajuu monogatari translation not holding save on n163 board plus sram, i had same method working with juvei quest
