UK Online Safety Bill

Post by Individualised »

Are you a UK citizen who cares about the free nature of the internet? Please consider signing this petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/634725

The Online Safety Bill is a UK law that is currently in the process of being passed. Despite its name, the real reason for this law is not to protect online users. It is plainly an internet censorship law, similar to the RESTRICT Act in the USA.

This law intends to block anonymity and require ID checks for websites. Using forums and social media without tying it to your real identity could become very difficult. This goes against the very fundamentals of the internet, essentially turning it all into one big Facebook. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN.

While this is just a UK law, this could set a huge precedent, and with similar laws popping up in other countries, something needs to be done about this before it's too late. The internet is our last platform yet to speak out against the people in charge and be able to make a change, and is such a wonderful tool for connecting with others. We can't lose it to this nonsense.

If you are not a UK citizen, please spread the word about this as much as you can
