About light gun games

Post by aquasnake »

Due to the fact that CRT is based on pixel scanning and the output is also a series of pixel bypixel signal, pixel scanning or line scanning can be captured in a frame. However, LCD is based on frame display, and pixels at different positions in one frame are refreshed at the same time. If the time from shooting to verdict is less than 1 frame (1/60 s), it will be filtered by the LCD TV.

So extending the flicker dwell time of the white blockin the black background to exceed 1 frame can achieve light gun application on morden displays.

However, this can only detect one shot within 2 frames, and for the screen with multiple objects hitting and requiring time within 2 frames, it is basically not supported. The CRT scanning method allows for a decision time of a few scanlines, and can even count pixels/scanlines.
