Nice, thank you for sharing.
The only thing that I could suggest (I'm a beginner too) is to change the jump sound, it is too iconic and easily recognizable. Otherwise it is a great first project.

Yes you are right. The time was limited for the metroidvania jam so I went for an easy sound. I am planning to update the game in the very next future and I’ll replace the jump sound with proper one also adding more sounds and music. Thanks for the feedback.

I have updated the game (same url on itch.io https://kamaleon70.itch.io/cursed-village) with better scrolling (previously was limited to only two screens at a time) and a larger level (still one level for now). Also some bugfixes were added. If you want to take a look and provide some feedback it will be really appreciated.
The game is still in early version and under development.

Nice update, it feels more fluid than the first one.
You also modified the level, right? I remember it was way too easy to get the speed potion, and now you can only get it with the longer route.

Thanks for checking it. Yes the level is a little longer and yes the longer route should be the only way to reach the potion.

I have uploaded a new update of the game (can be found at the usual itch.io page https://kamaleon70.itch.io/cursed-village). This update has new graphics, better jump and gravity (no more "floating" jump), additional player animations, animated lava, more traps,... and much more. Also some new sound effects (the old jump sound was replaced).

Every update I'm impressed more and more. I really like the progression of the game
The new items are good additions as well as the new rooms and enemy variations in speed, size and type.
My only suggestion would be to make the initial traps where you fall through the floor more noticeable, otherwise they feel a bit cheap. For example, there are similar traps inside the castle which are visually clearer. Another thing that caught me off guard was that the enemies can move even when textboxes are present, so I got hit by the green skeletons.
As for bugs, I only found 2, but they are minuscule so it's okay. The first one is that the first key is still active (but not visible) upon visiting the entrance the second time (rooftop route). The second one was a green skeleton floating inside the castle that keeps walking to the right non stop (maybe a secret?) All in all, it's a great update! keep it up!
