Wiki e-mail address verification broken?

Post by rainwarrior »

I was trying to change the e-mail address on my NESdev and SNESdev Wiki accounts. On both the e-mail address has been changed, but in my preferences page there is another button to "Confirm your e-mail address" which doesn't seem to be functioning properly.

If I click it, it takes me to a "Confirm email address" page that says:
A confirmation code has already been emailed to you; if you recently created your account, you may wish to wait a few minutes for it to arrive before trying to request a new code.
After waiting half an hour or so and receiving no e-mail (and checking for spam), if I click the button again I get the following additional error:
NESdev Wiki could not send your confirmation mail. Please check your email address for invalid characters.

Mailer returned: Failed to connect to tls://mail.nesdev.org:465 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Network is unreachable (code: -1, response: )]
Changing my e-mail address worked fine for this forum, however. In that case a confirmation e-mail arrived quickly (though it did go to spam).

brizzo hasn't worked on this yet, but I was able to reproduce it. I'm guessing it might have to do with the configuration changes for mitigating the recent DDoS, but we should find out soon. I'll let you know when it's resolved.

Thank you so much for reporting this -- it would appear this has been broken for a long time and should now be fixed!

Additionally, the emails going to spam is also fixed (DKIM config) and was caused from the DDoS mitigation.

I tried clicking the button a few times many minutes apart. I seem to get the same errors (but with a different mail server address this time), or sometimes no error appears, but either way no confirmation e-mails have reached my mailbox.

brizzo's still looking into this, but hasn't come up with a solution yet. It was definitely fixed at first; I had reproduced the problem by changing my email address and confirmed verification worked after he fixed it. It's not yet clear why it's broken again.

It *should* be fixed now.

There is something unknown adding a rule to the firewall creating a block. The logs are not clear to what is triggering the block, so I'm somewhat guessing on the fix

Trying it again today it worked. Clicking the button, this time the text actually changed to say the confirmation e-mail was sent, and it was received successfully. (The e-mail did not go to spam either, though I had also added it to my server's whitelist.)
