HiDef NES Gray screen.

Post by knight0fdragon »

Long time owner of HiDef NES. Worked great until NES died.

Purchased a new NES to try and save the HiDef NES. Redid all of the work, and the system works fine before swapping in the HIDEF parts, so the solder job was good.

With the HiDef though, I am getting nothing but a gray screen on both the AV and the HDMI port.

If I take out the HiDef stuff again, NES works fine over AV, (Even with the Q1 bridge).

My question is, does anybody have any suggestions on what I should be looking for to get this to work again. I am assuming the first step should be to try and get the AV working with the HDMI mod. Are there any tricks people have done to try and narrow down what could be the issue?

I had the same problem a few years ago with my HDMI kit. The problem was the DIP which came with the kit. I changed the DIP to another one, and it worked.
You can check the various signals coming from the PPU socket to check if the problem lies somewhere else.

Same here. The cpu or ppu would pop out of the socket. Duct tape fix that :) New socket. I still won't run it for more than 45 minutes. Gets warm but I don't want the regulator to burn out. Think about putting a heatsink on it.
