I’m in the process of playing through the original Wizardry games on Famicom, using a Turbo File to transfer my characters forward. Looks like there is an adapter to use the Turbo File for Famicom on Super Famicom, which would then let you transfer characters to Wizardry V SFC.
Anybody know anything about this device? Is it just a dumb FC -> SFC cable adapter in a fancy shell or are there actual electronics inside?

This adapter is mentioned in nocash's documentation:
If you look at the protocol, the Turbo File uses all 3 OUT bits for sending data from the CPU to the device, but the SNES controller ports only have one. Thus, any adapter would need to be more complex than just connecting wires.Turbo File Adapter
Allows to connect a Turbo File or Turbo File II to SNES consoles. Aside from the pin conversion (15pin NES to 7pin SNES), it does additionally contain some electronics (for generating a SNES controller ID, and a more complicated protocol for entering the data-transfer phase). Aside from storing SNES game positions, this can be also used to import NES files to SNES games.

Is it possible to transfer characters from the Famicom games to the Super Famicom games? If not you could also just get a Turbo File Twin which supports both TF and STF modes with a switch. It should be cheaper and easier to find.

It is possible to transfer from what I've read. I had no idea the TF Twin could be used on both systems? I'll have to give it a look.Pokun wrote: Tue Sep 16, 2025 1:15 pm Is it possible to transfer characters from the Famicom games to the Super Famicom games? Re: ASCII Turbo File Adapter SFC specs?
It can't be used on both systems (it only has an SFC controller port connector), I just meant that it supports TF mode which is the same as using a TF (or TFII) with an SFC-adapter, so it can be used with games that supports that.
Using the TF Twin on a Famicom might be possible with a custom adapter, but considering what Fiskbit said about the FC TF using the OUT 1 and 2 bits (which are missing on SFC) the problem is the same but in the other direction.
