What is the name of the NES audio/video cable?

Post by panikoman »

I want to connect the NES to a smart TV, but I'm not sure of what I need.

If I understand correctly, the audio/video cable NES_2_TV_ANTENNA is called a composite video video cable, but, how do I find the 1 RCA male to 3 male composite video called? I need it to connect it to the composite2HDMI converter.

Your standalone device probably has yellow, white, and red "RCA" (cinch) jacks. Connect yellow on the NES to yellow (this one carries video), red on the NES to either white or red or buy a splitter and connect it to both (this one carries mono audio).

White on the NES is RF out; ignore it.

If this does not describe your hardware, please provide a photo of what you're trying to use.

The NES 2 (top loader) only has RF output (single RCA connection), which is audio + video mudulated for channel 3 or 4. You can't extract separate audio and video from an RF signal using a passive cable - you need an RF demodulator (a box with power and RF/antenna inputs and separate AV outputs) or a TV tuner (something like a VCR or satellite TV box).

The alternative is to mod the console to add composite output. You need to build a simple small amplification circuit (or buy one) and install it inside the console (requiring some soldering and trace cutting). There are many online guides for this.
