I have a notification about being quoted in this post that says: Mon Jun 12, 2023 6:35 pm
However, there is no indication that the post above was edited. Normally posts will say "last edited at ..." at the bottom.
It's a bit confusing to be notified for something like this. Is there some reason there is no edit indication? Is it because tepples is a mod and using mod tools to edit the post? Alternatively, was this not edited at all? Is the notification wrong?
Notification about recent quotation by tepples in non-recent post?

Re: Notification about recent quotation by tepples in non-recent post?
From what I recall, when moderators or administrators edit a post in phpBB, it doesn't increment the "edited" count/timestamp, regardless of how old the post was (or whether anyone had replied to it).
I don't recall whether it's always like that or if it's just the default configuration, though - all I know is that that's what it was like on the forum I used to run many years ago.

Re: Notification about recent quotation by tepples in non-recent post?
I'm not sure what might've triggered this. There's nothing that shows up in the logs related to that thread, and there haven't been any spam posts in the approval queue for that thread that I'm aware of. Regarding edit notifications, I don't fully understand the rules, but I think mod edits don't show any sort of notification (nor do user edits to the last post in a thread).
phpBB is really janky. I'm still hopeful we'll transition over to xenforo sometime so things function better and so we have more flexibility to make improvements to the site.

In phpBB, if you edit your post, it'll only show the timestamp if there's another post after yours.
Edit: Here, I've just edited and I won't have a timestamp.

...but, now that there's a new post, if I go back up and edit my post again, that will create a timestamp.
Edit: Beep boop, here's an edit now that there's a post after this post. Notice how there's a timestamp now.

Furthermore, as we have it configured right now, edits by moderators only get a time stamp if we put some text in the "reason for editing" field.
Probably better if we can figure out how to turn that off, there's no reason we should be allowed to make stealth edits.

If the edited message is at the very bottom in the topic, there won't be "last edited at.." notification added.rainwarrior wrote: Mon Jun 19, 2023 5:35 pm However, there is no indication that the post above was edited. Normally posts will say "last edited at ..." at the bottom.
Otherwise, it will be as you say.

This was two years ago, but I believe I was specifically referring to mod edits, which did not bear the edit mark at all. This is different from the behaviour of people editing their own posts, which you just described.krzysiobal wrote: Sat Sep 27, 2025 1:41 amIf the edited message is at the very bottom in the topic, there won't be "last edited at.." notification added.rainwarrior wrote: Mon Jun 19, 2023 5:35 pm However, there is no indication that the post above was edited. I'm guessing that if a mod edits their own post without providing an edit summary, it might be treated as a mod edit even though it's their own post.
