Turbo File for ASCII Stick II Turbo

Post by TakuikaNinja »

Retronika on the Discord came across a unique variant of the original Famicom Turbo File today, which I've just added to the wiki page. It uses a DIN connector for the "OPTION" port found on the ASCII Stick II Turbo. I'm guessing the intention was that this would allow the Turbo File to be used with the joystick, even when another expansion port device is daisy-chained to it. I'm mostly curious about the pinout of the DIN connector, which almost certainly has to map to the expansion port pins required by the Turbo File. Any other functional differences would be good to know as well.

ASCII seems to have also marketed this variant as a slightly cheaper option for those who already had (or were also purchasing) that particular joystick from them. Image source: https://www.retromags.com/gallery/image ... -may-1988/

Interesting, and since the ASCII Stick II Turbo also has connectors for both a second controller and a tape drive, I guess it could be used together with all those devices without hot-swapping anything, unless anything of it conflicts with the TF.

BTW both the wiki and the everynes doc are missing some important info about Haja no Fuuin. I forgot the details but the manual for the TF2 said something about Haja no Fuuin game progress data should always be in the last file in the bank (so you shouldn't save anything more after it). Haja no Fuuin game end data can be saved anywhere however. I'm not sure what that means exactly though as I'm not familiar how saving in that game works.
The manual also mentions that Castle Excellent should always be saved in the first file in the bank, but we already knew that. All other games can be saved anywhere.
I guess I can scan the manual later.

I've seen both AS-TF02 and AS-TF03 on the internet, I guess the latter is just a revision update of the TF1.
