Will a PAL SNES Pro Action Replay work on an NTSC North American SNES? I'm thinking about getting a Pro Action Replay for my SNES, but it appears that the only available models on eBay are PAL region.

Yes it will. It works on both US and JPN Systems, mini systems too. Tested by me and the couple of systems I have.

NTSC Action Replays are not very common. I have a German PAR MK3, works great.

I've been looking for an MK3 to test out cheats for Yoshi's Island and other SFX games, as well as SA-1 games. Would you happen to know if it works with any of those games? I currently have an MK2 and it does not work with those games.

I do not own any SA-1 games. Do you have some codes for Yoshi's Island? I do have that game and could try it out sometime. Going from memory though, I recall Doom did run through the PAR MK3 and part of the whole reason I bought it was to run chip games that were US NTSC on my Super Famicom I had at the time. Mega Man X2 and X3 worked too. But it's been awhile.

Ok here are a couple to try that should have immediate effect

Code: Select all

All Levels Are Completed With 100% 108152A9
                                      108153E4

Always Have 99 Stars 00E2CE9E

Hopefully it doesn't erase your save file. On my Kirby 3 it erased my save file when I tried messing with it on my MK2.

I will try it out as soon as I get the chance. I currently have no save files of importance so I'm ok with the risk.

I tried to use your codes but the game keeps crashing, probably because my cartridge is not a standard Yoshi's Island cartridge, it has 3 flash roms inside it, and that plus the Action Replay MK3 might be too much for my PSU to avoid power dips that could cause a crash. But the game does run and I see no reason why a normal cartridge wouldn't work. If you had a code for Stunt Race FX or Star Fox I could try those as I have the standard carts.

Ok here are a couple for Star Fox, thank you for testing.

Code: Select all

Unlimited health: 7E039640

Always have 4 smart bombs: 7E15AF07

I will give them a try tonight.

Update: The codes had no effect. There is one reason this may be, and that is that Star Fox is unusual if I recall in that it doesn't actually use the NMI interrupt. PAR I think relies on intercepting the NMI interrupt. The game did run though. No glitching out like my cart with Yoshi's Island that I'm very certain was just drawing too much power for the little PSU.

That's further than I ever got with my MK2, I think it's time I search out and MK3 for myself to play around with. Thanks again for trying out the codes.

I have a SNES/SFC PAR cartridge which don't work with hi-rom carts. there's a conflict of it's internal memory and game save ram. :?

I think it's a very old version of PAR.

Do the pro action replays have the extra pins on the cartridge connector that co-processor SNES carts have? I know for certain the game genie doesn't and it's why the game genie does not work with co-processor games.

Does this mean an accurate emulator should disable the coprocessor if a Game Genie code has been entered?

MK3 does have extra pins.

A Game Genie can be modded to add extra pins, I don't really understand what you meant :?

A lot of games with co processors on the cart do have the extra pins but they're not connected to anything.

Including the newer versions of the GSU chip.
