I just came across this crazy Castlevania 2 re-translation/enhancement patch that add many extra feature to the game and was blown away by the extent of the hack. You guys should really check it out, you can even generate custom patch with the feature you like directly from a form on the programmer's website. Among the extra feature added are a very useful in-game map, battery backed ram and even give you the ability to run the game off 7 different mapper of your choice. It's even compatible with the USA/PAL/JAP version of the game. Many other features were added, you should check out the full changelog, it's simply unbelievable all the hacking that must have been required to do all those things.

Nice! I'm glad this game is getting some love. I always liked this game and thought it got a bad wrap. It mainly suffered from poor translation and a legacy of poor game mechanics from the first game.

Now that I read his user name, I do remember him posting on nesdev before. I did not notice at first who coded it but I'm still very impressed by the work and was hoping to make more people aware of that project. I read this forum regularly and was still not aware of this cool hack so I figured some more people could benefit from a heads-up.

I'm sure glad you brought it up. The next time I get the itch to play this game I'll try this hack. I play it about once a year since I first tried in about six years ago.
