Did I see a flash of a CD icon when it started up the audio track?

Also, I think balance controls using a L---*---+-------R slider would be more intuitive (much faster too!) for most people.

Yeah, for the real system when it's seeking an audio track - it shows a spinning CD icon. On emulation, you might see it for a single frame.

The L/R thing is a pretty decent idea, but then I'd have to still add a volume setting too for each one.

You might want to check the User Control Panel (Profile -> Board preferences -> Edit posting defaults) for the "Attach my signature by default" option.
