Mega man hack - disabled select button [solved]

I don't know is this is the right thread to ask in, but maybe someone can...
I felt in love with Megaman Reloaded hack http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/998/ but, as in the first Megaman, I am unable to beat the darned Yellow devil. Author of the hack deliberately disabled the "Select" button to forbid people to beat Yellow devil by using the Elecman beam+pause trick.
My question is, can someone please re-enable the Select as a pause button, to help me jump this boss? This hack is amazing by the way!

Have you tried asking the author, since he knows what he changed? His contact info is in the readme, ditto with all the places he hangs out.

His email doesn't work and I messaged him on Board2 forum, but with no answer so far. I can try to post in his hack release thread too.

Edit:
sorry the problem was in my device, for unknown reason the select button on my portable famicom device doesn't work. Hack works fine on normal Famicom.
