I have a couple of questions about UNROM-512, which I post here because I have found no other thread with the answer. I hope rainwarrior does not get offended by this small hijack of the topic (I promise I won't go OT anymore after these ;) )

1. am I correct that mapper 30 + no battery in header = unflashable setup, while mapper 30 + battery in header = flashable setup?
2. is Battle Kid 2 using the FLASH at all?
3. is Study Hall the only program using the board in flashable mode?

[Looks like a perfect place for a split --MOD]

1. Correct on both counts.

2. Battle Kid 2 is not using the flash at all. In fact, the only part of the board it is using, in the oversize UxROM bit. I have however created a hack that takes advantage of the flash capability. Taking advantage of it on the real cart, requires modding it though, (specifically adding the components to enable self-flashing, then actually dumping the cart, applying the IPS, and flashing the changed version back onto the cart.) (I plan to mod my #31 of 33 LE cart with this. :) ) (hack source code)

3. Currently, Study hall is the only cart for sale that is using the board in self-flashable setup. However, the XMAS 2013 cart, which is a different board, is also self-flashable, in exactly the same way. (The main difference with the XMAS 2013 cart, is that any writes from 8000-BFFF turn on/off LEDs, otherwise, the board functions identically to unrom512.)

thanks a lot for the replies.
I will give a try to support the flash saves (probably after I fix the problems with EEPROMs in Bandai games) and your patch will help definitely to test the effect of the emulation.
