27c301 burning problems

Ok, so I got the idea of 27c301's and bought some. But after jumping it correctly with a wire (on a gq4x), so far 8/9 failed at various times in their burning (1% up to 75%). Only one burned correctly. Is there something i need to specifically watch out for in the burning with the wire? Do I need a specific type of wire?
