The Swiss are known for amazing timepieces, not the Swedes. Not to mention every Swede I know of hates Pewdiepie (I secretly think he's a Norwegian spy sent to Sweden to try and make the country look stupid, muwhaha). Emulation FAIL! I'll summon Bregalad to school you. ;-)

I thought they were the same place for a minute. (I also thought New Zealand was in Europe. )

He's an ass. Honestly, He reminds me of the Nintendo Wii. He isn't that great, but he goes for the easy to get audience, (8-12 Man, I can't stand those squeaky voiced minecraft freaks. I wish Pewdiepie and Minecraft where banished to the depths of Hell) which makes him look extremely lazy, but he doesn't care as long as he gets money. (It doesn't take a full grown man to scream at a webcam.) He's such a wuss for disabling the comments on his videos. Are you really going to cut of people's speech just because he doesn't want to here anything negative about you? Is he an 8 year old in a man's body? Do I wish a wooden steak was driven through his neck? Yes.

(Sorry about that. )

Sweetish ?!

Why are all americans so uneducated, especially about geography ? Didn't you guys go to school when you were a kid ? (it sounds offensive but I'm quite serious here)

At least you know that milk comes form cows so you are a bit above the USA national average.
New Zealand
Explaination : Colonizers were lazy so they just reused names of the cities or regions they came from and predeceased them with "new" instead of making up new names. So of course "new" things cannot be in europe, because that's where the "old" are. For example, New York was named after York, a major UK city, and was previously named Niew Amsterdam, I'll let you guess where this comes from :)

I have however no idea if there is somewhere a Zealand in europe, but it's likely there is.

EDIT : (a google search later)
Yes, the "old" Zealand is the name of Denmark island (by pure coincidence), as well as a region of the Netherlands (that is where the "new Zealand" names comes from).

EDIT 2 : Personally I think they suck, because I would really loved to make up Cities' and countries' names instead. We can only compensate this by creating artificial world, for example in games :)

In my geography class, we literally just sit in our desk while the teacher plays on his phone. It's a miracle he hasn't been fired yet.

I think geography gets shafted here in the US simply because of... well, geography. The US doesn't have a lot of direct neighbors (Mexico, Canada), whereas the continents of South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia have dozens. Others countries are going to emphasize learning about their region as a matter of geo-political necessity. If you're living in Europe, it's important to learn where places like Spain, France, or Germany are located. You might get a job there or travel there someday. For the average American, this is not the case. It's enough to know general locations as an adult and get by in life. As long as you think Denmark is "somewhere" in Europe or Venezula is "somewhere" in South America, everyday American life doesn't require anything more (and obviously you can get by with far less...) So that's why I think our education on the subject is so poor.

Super off-topic. Split?

I'm an American and proud of it.

It's offensive because you said "all". You're generalizing a whole population based on a minority of less educated people, which seems ignorant. There are many brilliant American geologists which know their geography a whole lot better than most people from other countries. I know your English is great but it still isn't quite on par with a native speaker, so please be careful when choosing words such as "all". Thanks. --ShaneM, the proud American

EDIT: The stupid liberal media is to blame for categorizing most Americans as 'uneducated', as well as other nefarious propaganda; America's education system isn't perfect but it's still decent.

Well, to be honest, I've never really felt the whole "American and proud" thing. Maybe this seems a bit ignorant, but although America is far from perfect, there a certainty far worse places to live. It seems like a lot of the problems people bicker about are present in a lot of other countries, but people don't act like it.

I love my country, my flag and the greatness this country has achieved with both technology and freedom. I've edited my avatar to include the American flag. It was the Americans that Malaysia sought when the MH370 went missing, because we have great resources, possibly on par with Russia. We are great with astrophysics and space technology, too. This is really off topic but I got a little pissed off when that guy started categorizing all of us. America is so large and diverse that to categorize "all" of us is just plain ignorant and stupid. I'm proud to have Indian blood running through my veins and being a 1st generation American. I am proud of who I am as well as where I'm from (Ohio) and nobody can take that away from me. What also makes our heritage so rich is the fact that we are really a melting pot of different cultures (whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics etc. even though the media portrays the typical American as being Caucasian). Anyway, my previous post on the Nestopia guy really has all I need to say on the topic viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11626&sid=4b056a366 ... 06#p144292. --ShaneM, the proud American

If you're living in the United States, it's important to learn where places like Virginia, Oregon, or Michigan are located. You might get a job there or travel there someday. (Just as Europe has free travel within the Schengen area, the USA has free travel within its borders.) For the average citizen of a European country, this is not the case. It's enough to know general locations as an adult and get by in life. As long as you think Colorado is "somewhere" in the USA or Manitoba is "somewhere" in Canada, everyday European life doesn't require anything more.

PM me the split spec and I'll do it.

@tepples - Exactly. It works for everyone all ways around. Something may be relevant to a certain group of people, but it's all relative. I think it would be too harsh of me to assume someone was uneducated if they lived outside the US and didn't know where Maryland is. I would just think it's of little importance to them. I won't judge anyone for not grasping US geography (unless you work in shipping... in the US ;))

I can locate Britan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France on a map without Google; everything else is terra incognito to me. I would hope I'm not considered uneducated; the subject simply does not warrant learning it, not for my Average American life. It's always good to know more though, don't get me wrong.

And they try to tie in racism most of the time. Just see the George Zimmerman (who if I'm not mistaken, was half Hispanic) thing and every thing in Colorado. This isn't the 1960's. And while this is still a bit of racism going on (not nearly as much as people act) women are on a level playing field with men. People always complain about women making less money than men, but, I don't know, maybe it's because of the jobs they are choosing? Out of the three elementary schools I went to, there wasn't a single teacher who wasn't a woman. And last time I checked, elementary school teacher isn't exactly the highest paying occupation.

I just hate when people make a big deal out of nothing.

As some who is black and has dealt with racial issues firsthand for most of my life, I can tell you that there still is more than "just a bit" of racism left in the US. Jim Crow Law level? No. But that doesn't mean we've overcome all of it, just some of the worse. We still have a lot of work to do. If you don't see racial problems in your area, that's great! That show how far we've come. But there are plenty of other places where we need to try harder (sometimes much harder).

And statistically speaking, iirc, the gender pay-gap is something seen across most fields (i.e. between men and women working the same careers).

But this is all a nasty can of worms. Why Espozo? WHY? Now we'll all be sucked into a huge debate. Look what you've done! Personally I don't have the time to argue for or against any posts that come after this, so I'll just keep messing with my GBA emulator...

The problem is that Western women in general are bitches. They're stuck up, feeling their god's gift to men just because they have a pair of breasts and a vagina. Feminism is evil in that it promotes female superiority rather than equality. What does feminism fix? Has anyone seen any good solutions come out of it? I mean come on, we already live in a society that's more than fair. Women can vote, work, do whatever the fucking hell they want and we even have stay-at-home dads with numbers rising. What the fuck more do they want? They say they aren't being treated equal, I've learned that women talk is really a different language. What they really mean is "equality is not enough, we want MORE!". Here's how it's really unfair to men:

1) The man has to do all the fucking work. He has to ask the women out, hope she does not reject him (like she's some kind of princess). He has to buy her clothes, jewelry, chocolate and a ton of shit she doesn't need (which boosts her ego). Then, at the end, if she hasn't found someone who can give her more stuff, the dude has to go through the trouble and heart pain of purposing to her with a fancy ring. Does this sound fair? And what does he get through this all, a little sex? Was that worth thousands of dollars for "fake" or "paid for" love? I really feel it's the media's fault for divorce rates being in the 60s percentile and growing. This is a phenomena.

2) It's always the man's fault for being an uncaring, insensitive jerk. God forbid he blames the woman. The goddamn media says so and we all know it's never wrong. "Men never listen and are fat, lazy drunks" says the media.

3) During a domestic dispute, the man is 95% always to blame and after the bitchy woman sheds a few tears for the cops the man then gets arrested.

4) Most Western women tend to act like eccentric men, they've lost the petite lady-like attitude and try to be dominant, which is why divorce is so high. Men want an equal-partner relationship, not having to live in fear and strife.

I could go on with this list. But really, this is Western women in general. Eastern women seem to have more respect for men and understand what love really is, not all but most. It's a shame. These Western women are so beautiful; their beauty got the best of them. Always being sheltered by their father/brother until they're married while men have to experience the hardship of the world growing up.

But really, biology is the winner here. It dictates that men and women are in fact NOT equal. Men have more testosterone while women have more estrogen, making men more physically able, with the ability to gain more muscle mass. Women tend to generally have a more nurturing, emotional side (the non-masculine ones). We generally have different interests and different bodily needs/functions. --ShaneM
