Is this a good EPROM Programer for making NES carts?

Post by Polar Hacker »

Hey guys! I'm wanting to get into making custom NES carts... I have a EPROM Eraser and soldering tools, and a 3.8 security bit. I'm just wondering, is this a good EPROM Programer for making NES carts?: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MiniPro- ... 86220.html (It's a MiniPro TL866CS. Will I need any adaptors for 27C256, 27C512, 27256 and 27512 EPROMS? I'm also going to be following this guide: http://callanbrown.com/index.php/basic-nes-reproduction Is the tut correct?

Thanks!

It's probably fine. It says it does 24-series EPROMs, which is what I presume you'll be using.

I have one, though so far I've only used it for dumping ROMs. It's a pretty sturdy device, and it's fast.

My only disappointment is that it doesn't support 8742 MCUs.

Good to know, thanks! What is 8742 MCUs used for? Never heard of then, so I take it their not for NES.

They're used for all sorts of things, as microcontrollers tend to be. The ones I'm interested in are on old PC motherboards.
