Unable to program EEPROM

Post by cornsyrup32 »

I have just recieved a batch of EEPROM pulls from a seller on Ebay for a great price. The only problem is I cannot program the most common kind in the batch. PM29f002-T. I have a willem programmer, the cheap crappy ones from Ebay. I can program the ST and AMD versions of the chip, but not PMC. I can erase and read the chips. I was reading on some forums that I need to use the older software (0.97g) instead of (0.97d).

If it is just the programmer, is there any better programmers you could recommend?

Here is the datasheet for the PMC ones,
http://www.datasheetarchive.com/Pm29F00 ... sheet.html

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Brandon

It was a while back, but I can almost swear that I successfully tested a PMC flash chip on my Squeedo cartridge in the past. Which means it would have been compatible enough with an AMD part, and that I would had to have programmed it with my old Willem programmer, which is PCB 3.5 and built by Sivava. People like to say they're shit, but mine had worked well for 10+ years, until it recently managed to die after falling off of my desk. As long as you know what all the jumpers do, they're not all displayed in the software. Regarding that, I have 0.97ja, though I believe that's newer than when I tested the PMC chip.. 0.97g might have been what I had then, it sounds familiar. I vaguely remember some of the changes in the Willem software involved the sector locking on the AMD flash, so it may be worth trying that older version in case those changes somehow affected support for other parts.

The part says 29F002 on it, but you should try programming it as a generic 29F020.
