MX29LV160 B, T, BB, CT?

Post by guitarzombie »

Hey all, im gonna try my hand with making a FF7 cart. I just got a quick question tho when buying a flash chip. What does the last part of the part name mean? It seems like the pinouts are the same, but theres AB, BB, B, BC, T, CT etc.

Depends on the chip. In this case, it has to do with the size and location of the erasable sectors — here the letter means that the B=bottom-most or T=Top-most 64 KiB have a bunch of smaller-than-64KiB erasable sectors (and the rest of the chip can be erased 64 KiB at a time)

Here's Macronix's datasheet for that part.

That said, do not use the 29LV on a 5V system (such as the SNES) without adding voltage translation. Currently the only manufacturer of 2MB 5V EEPROMs is Micron with their M29F160Fxx series.

Ahhh thanks for the heads up! I was thinking of taking off the bootleg FF7s flash chip, flashing it and just burning it on there. So LV means low voltage. When i get the games ill take a look and either use what they did or buy some of those. Thanks
