INL Board doesn't fit CHR

Post by Polar Hacker »

So I got my INL ROM board today, to make a VS super Mario bros. home edition. When I was looking at it though, It appears that I can't fit the CHR on. Please look at the photos.

The PRG fits fine. I ordered a CHR ROM board. Is this what it's supposed to be like? Or did they send the wrong one? If so, what am I doing wrong?

EDIT: The pins don't stick out of the holes, so I can't solder them.

Is the problem that the black rectangle (labelled "IDT 71256 SA15YGI TT1440P") is holding the IC up too far? If so, I fear you were shipped a CHR-RAM board by accident.

Unless there's a jumper somewhere to disable it.

Thats for sure a CHR-RAM board. I don't know if INL programs his CPLD differently for RAM or ROM (if he does, then you'll need to contact him for replacement), but if it functions the same with ROM or RAM then I'd say you can desolder that RAM chip and put your ROM into place. But you may want to check with his support page first.

Yes, that's exactly the problem. I thought it was CHR RAM, because after I was having trouble, I googled the board, and there was someone who did a tutorial on them. He was doing Final Fantasy and it used CHR RAM. And his CHR part of the board looked exactly the same as mine.

Nothing on his support page. I'll e-mail him. Hopefully I can just get another one for free :). What's really odd is that the package description on the parcel says CHR ROM. But then again, he could have just picked the wrong one at the last second.
