An overdue thank you

Post by JoeGtake2 »

I think this post is long overdue, and I don't know where else on the page to put it, so I figured I'd put it here.

I wanted to just post a blanket, long overdue 'thank you' to the NESDEV community - those that trailblazed this path and did all the grunt work to reverse engineer this beast so that we could all build our silly little 8-bit visions. I'm not just saying thanks because of the incredible insight you've all provided. I'm adding the caveat that this is the single place on the entire scope of the internet that I've felt has been without ridiculous trolling and nonsense. Every single person that I've encountered has been quick to help, never judgmental or condescending, or arrogant. Every single one of you I have interacted with has been patient, incredibly helpful, and genuine in the interest of comradery.

I now have had the pleasure of actually personally meeting so many of you over the course of this project and my adventure across the states, and you're all even more humble than I'd imagined. I appreciate every single one of you for your diligent efforts, completely respect your personal ambitions and struggles, and am glad that I might get to show a bigger world just what one goes through for this passion via the documentary.

In short - you all rock.

I communicated similar sentiment to the above before, but, +1. This site, and the brilliant minds who first got this scene going, have literally made my childhood dream of making nintendo games possible. I don't think I could ever thank everyone enough for this. I know I haven't always quite fit into the culture, here, as instead of initially becoming a contributor of this site I just went ahead and made some games (using what I learned for free here) and made a little bit of cash on them. However, I never did this for money---I've been doing it for the nostalgia of seeing something I made on a real cartridge. I'll always be a part of this site and I will always try to give back in whatever way I can, while recognizing all the great talents that made this site into the incredible resource it is today.

 Honestly, I personally have no beef with people making money on games they make. Never did. It might be changing slowly, but I definitely perceived some distaste here on this site for anybody making a game to sell. I never personally understood that distaste. What if what I have to give back *is* a game on a physical cartridge? Oh well, can't please everybody, can't fit in everywhere...can't be helped, that's just life. Doesn't change how grateful I am!

I hadn't taken any offense! Man, communicating online is nigh impossible sometimes! Maybe someday instead of emoticons people can include a little animated gif of how happy their faces look.
