Let's wait for someone to post something inflammatory here before locking the thread.

I'm willing to keep it open under two conditions: that no personal attacks be made nor repeated, and that the topic be interpreted as follows:

"Years ago I upset a staff member of the primary Internet forum for a particular topic. How should I go about making up to staff and members of said forum?"

Psychopathicteen, if you have a point you want to make about some incident past or present, we're not who you should be making that point to; there's nothing for you to prove to us, because the incident is external to this community. This place is uninvolved, and none of us know anything about it. This is why you kept seeing a bad reaction from us whenever it was brought up.

So far, any information about whatever happened has come from someone registering and yelling about it, allcaps and inflammatory, so with no other information about this subject from any other sources, it's heresay to us, and therefore feels like immature drama. In this thread, it still feels confusing because we still don't know what's going on, yet you seem to think we're well versed in it.

If you'd like advice on what to do, you can start by explaining exactly what happened, when and where it happened, and what you want to do about it. This would be acceptable here because this isn't an outside argument being brought into here, but instead a "hey this happened, what can I do to fix it?" thread.

Okay, I got a question I would like advice for. How can I get rid of a bad reputation for once and for all?, and be sure of it?

I wouldn't say there's one "sure" way. But typically by doing the best you can. If you help a lot of people, and write/make interesting things, eventually people tend to take notice.

I certainly think he's done a service to SNES dev by being the only one with a displayable demo. (And I like how he used my awesome vram ideas. )

I think I need to take a break from programming (and possibly the internet), since it's been consuming my life. I need to get back into my hobbies of drawing and playing video games.

I guess that reputation is not something you can change overnight, usually it takes a while for people to forget the things you've done. Not repeating them is probably the best way to start.

Moderators: Please have a stern and receptive private talk with this user about this type of behavior; and how its affects the community, please. Some people don't know they are offending (possible atypical neurology, etc.) But this type of behavior is and should be "moderatable."

I know we have historically been pretty kit-glove about moderation, but toleration of this stuff is low.

Much respect to all.

I know this is the kind of cliche you'd see on your grandma's or your aunt's refrigerator (or facebook wall, it's practically the same thing sometimes), but this quote comes to mind:

“Lord, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.”

You move forward with better behavior. I don't think anyone here is judging you or even knows what the hell you're talking about in the first place.

About 7 years ago I chose to represent myself online using my real name to better keep electronic communication and expressions in check. It's much easier to write something stupid when nobody will hold you accountable.
