Double Dragon II - new revision?

Post by Zepper »

Do you know such revision? ;)
Yes, it's another pirate from my collection. After a bad insertion of the cart, the game was damaged, or sort of. It was running in the console but without music during the gameplay and the scorebar wasn't working (scrolls too). For my surprise, I could dump & run it perfectly in my emulator. Perhaps the MMC3 chip circuity was damaged, but not affecting the dumping process..? Just look at these screenshots of it. ^_^;;

EDIT: Oh, it seems I have a prototype cartridge! Wow, this one was bought by my father during the early 90's.

JHMWANG is quite possibly a Chinese name, read J.H.M.Wang, where Wang is the family name, H.M. is the initial of the given name, whereas the J could be the initial of his English given name (such as James, John, etc.).
So, in other words, a hacked game.

It's equally possible the hacker's surname was 黄 / 黃 / 皇 (huang2), often romanised as "hwang". If only he had separated his surname from given name with a space. To further complicate things, the hacker could've been Korean -- surnames 黃 (huang2), and both "wangs" (王 (wang2) and 汪 (wang1)) are common in Korea (written as 황 and 왕 in hangul respectively); J and M and H are all valid consonants in Korean. There are a huge number of hacked/pirate Famicom games in Korea for the Hyundai Comboy (컴보이). ROMs are ROMs...

In other words: we'll likely never know who the hacker was, or his origin. :(

But I guess this is all irrelevant. :)
