Hello.
I've found a cheap megadrive game online.
The seller don't have an MD to test it.
It has no label, but I got a picture of the board:
Game.jpeg
If I'm seeing correctly the ROM chip has printed:
MPR-13924-F
838200-20
410 AK
9119 Z03

I've search the web and found nothing.
Can someone please identify this game to me?
Thanks in advance!!

Semi-helpful, but this particular IC number isn't in the list:

http://www.smspower.org/Development/ROMPartNumbers
http://www.smspower.org/forums/6760-Seg ... bersUpdate

If these numbers are incrementing in general chronological order (release date), then it may be possible to narrow down what likely candidates are. It would fall between these two (GG = Game Gear):

Code: Select all

MPR-13913-F, ROM type 834200A, MD Sonic The Hedgehog
MPR-13930, board type 71-6087A, GG Wagyan Land (JP)
834200 / 834200A is likely a 4mbit / 512KByte mask ROM.

MegaDrive Sonic the Hedgehog was released to JP on 1991-06-23. Game Gear Wagyan Land was released to JP on 1991-07-26. So odds are the game is from mid-1991, which doesn't help, because a ton of of 4mbit / 512KByte Genesis/MegaDrive games were released in 1991.

That's definitely a 1Mbyte game, and I don't think there are too many of those with battery saves. Unfortunately there's no Bootgod's database equivalent to MD. Guardiana.net comes closest probably but hosts no sort of hardware info.

How did you determine it's a 1MByte game when there are games on the chart with the same ROM type (834200 / 834200A) that are all 512KB?

Code: Select all

1991-01-01 05:00 524,800 Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf (U) [!].smd
1991-01-01 05:00 524,800 Sonic the Hedgehog (JUE) [!].smd
1991-01-01 05:00 524,800 Quack Shot Starring Donald Duck (JUE) (REV 00) [!].smd
1991-01-01 05:00 524,800 Taz-Mania (U) [!].smd

You can tell that the game is 1Mbyte by looking at the 4 pins in left. 512KB games have 3 pins, 1Mbyte games have 4, 2Mbyte games have 5 and 4Mbyte games 6. Games with SRAM backup use the 6th line to split the 4MB range into two halves, ROM in first and SRAM in other half. Also the ROM has 42 pins, 512KB ROMs have 40 pins only.

That's pretty cool knowledge! Thanks for sharing!!

I think I'm becoming older and lazier...
A while ago I would just buy the game than try to do something with it later.
I think this board will really need to be stripped, cleaned, tested and reassembled.
I've got a somewhat incomplete list of 8mbit games made by Sega and with SRAM save:

Code: Select all

Aerobiz
Aerobiz: Supersonic
Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP 2
Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun
Exile
Gemfire
Genghis Khan 2: Clan of the Gray Wolf
NCAA Football
Operation Europe: Path to Victory 1939-45
Pirates! Gold
PTO: Pacific Theater of Operations
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II
Shining in the Darkness
Sorcerer's Kingdom
Tecmo Super Baseball
Tecmo Super Bowl
Tecmo Super Hockey
Tecmo Super NBA Basketball
TNN Bass Tournament of Champions
TNN Outdoors Bass Tournament '96
Traysia
Uncharted Waters
Wacky Worlds Creativity Studio
Warrior of Rome II
World Cup USA '94
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys
That list, summed with Koitsu assumption that's a 1991 game narrows to Ayrton Senna's game.
I'm not totally sure of most of these games release date, so it's just a kind of assumption.

Isn't the 9119 the production date?
It could mean 19th week of 1991, or not...
Is the serial number (the MPR code, right?) written somewhere inside the ROM??
Thanks guys, even if I'm not sure wich game it is, it's being very educational to me!

Yes, almost guaranteed.

It's not the same, but all SMD games have a UID at byte offset 0x180.
