Hidden generic NES emulator in Animal Crossing

Post by NovaSquirrel »

Apparently, the NES emulator in Animal Crossing for Game Cube can run arbitrary ROMs on the same memory card as your town in addition to just the built-in games. Article about it here.

I was able to play Nova the Squirrel on it perfectly fine, though I'm not sure I like Nintendo's NES palette choice that much. I'd be curious to see what emulator tests the built-in emulator passes or fails.

If anyone else would like to try and play with this, there's a Python converter here and a GUI Windows version here.

Universal code for the NES item:

Code: Select all

#ibXoe4IPHU&Lq
fAvo3cSERExAHO
GameCube Memory Card Manager, a Wii homebrew app that makes it very easy to get the converted ROMs onto an actual memory card.

Nice! and here I first thought you were using whatever method that Rachel used to put Electronic Sweet-N-Fun Fortune Teller into Animal Crossing.

In my opinion this is a lot cooler than just replacing a game, because the game of your choice is actually in your town. Not in a hacked copy of Animal Crossing, in your town, legitimately playable.

If you execute arbitrary code, will Mr. Resetti yell at you?
