Wendy's Wi-Fi blocks nesdev.com

Post by tepples »

I was in a Wendy's restaurant today and pulled out my laptop to read between bites. But I discovered that connection to https://forums.nesdev.com over the complimentary Wi-Fi timed out. I tried accessing through cleartext protocol (http://nesdev.com) and got a message that access to the IP address was denied: the site has a trustworthy reputation but is in the category "games". The site works through Walmart Wi-Fi though.

Has anyone else run into hotspots that block nesdev.com?

Reminds me of the story about US mail blocking a 90 years old professor in UK because they believe him to be Akhmed the One-armed.

Reminds me of when I lived in China in 2004. Had to do some gymnastics to get to the gbadev forums as they were blocked by the Great Firewall.

Sometimes the acceleration function of Opera mini on my cellphone blocks NesDev.
If I disable de acceleration the site works fine.

This also happens once in a while with some random sites, like the Victor Trucco's site and even BootGod's.
That's the ones I remember now, from the top of my head but I'm sure there are more.

I have no idea of the reason of these blocks.
In my opinion the contents of these sites are very educational.

I can't access github at work. Potential malware or something.

Wendy's is using an instance of the "Internet Censorship System", some Businesses and all Public Schools use that system...

Me: It is still sad to see a state of censorship coming to fast food from public schools,
American Law: YU WAN HAVE FUN IN FOOD JOINTS? SCREW U, UR CENSORED!!!
