VS. Excitebike Mapper Hack?

Post by nintendo2600 »

Hey All,

Is there a patch to convert the Mapper 99 VS. Excitebike to anything more common? I've read
about some info regarding an MMC1 hack but I think that was just for adding savesates to
a hacked vanilla excitebike and not the actual VS version. I'm looking to be able to play the VS
version on real NES hardware using a common donor. Was hoping there was something floating
around like the VS. Duck Hunt that had on screen dip settings or even fixed settings. Saving
would be nice but not needed.

Thanks,

Shawn

Simple Vs. System games typically only support two 8KB CHR ROM pages, so it'd be fairly trivial to convert them to CNROM unless they rely on 4-screen VRAM (which most cartridges don't support).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.

Seems like a great time to learn how to use an emulator with a debugger, then :p

There was a guy who had done vs smb and i thought several other vs games and had patches up on a personal site. Have you run across that guy? IIRC excitebike was on the list, being either done or in progress.

I remember the VS duck Hunt and VS SMB which I believe where from that person. Duck Hunt was converted to MMC1, IRRC. I never bothered with Excitebike back then and I have no clue where that site went. nothing comes up on a quick googling anyhow.

It's still mapper 99 which isn't gonna do me any favors, sadly. :(
