Fake low power KM62256BLS SRAM from aliexpress

Post by krzysiobal »

I was searching for a low power (suitable for battery backup) SRAM, in a shrink DIP-3, not as more common DIP-6 package. The only that I know so far are KM6264BLS and KM62256BLS, the latter is preferred as it is 32kB. I had previously both of them and was quite happy. I found one on aliexpress for reasonable price, the photo showed a chip that was identical to my (original) one just the Samsung logo was removed from photo probably due to copyright reasons:

The memories arrived in a small box:

But then the neither the markings (font is different), nor the package (a little lower package, differently shaped notch) did not match my original ones.

I wouldn't care, but the main issue is that those memories are not low power. Powering them from battery (with just /CS tied to VBB thru 10k resistor) shows variable amount of current consumption (from 50u, to even 500u), depending on if you touch the legs, if you move the protoboard from the table to the air etc.

Current consumption of my original one is ~0uA no matter if I touch legs, move the board away, etc.
The datasheed says of typical 1u

Do you know any other brand low power DIP-3 SRAMs? Or maybe even larger in DIP32-3 package? (not the wide one)

It's crazy they bother to make fake chips for chips that are obsolete since ~25 years
Useless, lumbering half-wits don't scare us.

Buying chips from aliexpress is a bad idea, there are quite a few videos on youtube about this counterfeit ic scam.

Check the videos by some notable yt'ers:

I recommend the one by plgDavid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k72SFBOZ_lw

But they're all pretty good watches.
