Port 2 not working on Mario but works on Duck Hunt

Post by Fla-Bill »

My NES-001 port 1 works with either Mario game pad but port 2 doesn't work with either, but port 2 does work with Duck Hunt gun. Any suggestions?

Out of the 7 connections on the front, two are used by both the Zapper and the normal controller, three are used only by the normal controller, and two are used only by the Zapper.

It's hard to say what's wrong beyond "something's not making contact somewhere"

Maybe it could be the difference in the games.

Mario is single player, unless you select a 2 player game; in only a 2 player Mario game, both ports work. And, port 2 only works while Luigi is on the screen… I think that’s correct at least; I don’t remember both ports being able to control the menu.

While Duck Hunt is always a two player game, so controller port 2 is always working.

The following quote is from here:

Apologies if you already know this but Duck Hunt is actually a TWO player game. Not two guns, but if one player is using the gun you can plug in one of the controllers and that person can actually control the ducks on the screen.
