e&e chinese learning famiclone cartridge

Post by krzysiobal »

I found those pics accidentally there:

Looks like the cartridge is a part of educational keyboard famiclone (e&e chinese learning famiclone)

Despite quite low quality pics and dirt/flux debris, I was able to trace most of the board, but unfortunately the most important part is still unclear, mainly because the RAM (for sure) and ROM (probably) are connected to data and address buses in non canonical way (reversed pins).

Unknowns are:
* audio + microphone jack - no idea if it is meant to be used for speakers and microphone or tape in/tape out recorder and how it connects with the LM339 opamp

* one unidentified DIL14 chip, no idea if this is some gate (7402 probably) or latch (7474)

*All eight bits of 74273 register are used, though no idea exactly what controls what. PRG ROM (1MB) is banked in 32k mode. Mirroring is hardwired to V. No idea at which address range this reg is placed

Code: Select all

|  +++++-- PRG bank?
+--------- 1bpp mode?
* CHR-RAM: the cartridge for sure has ability to control CHR-A12 and CHR-A3 (probably 1bpp video mode, just like for example https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/NES_2.0_Mapper_371).
The only cartridge, using discrete PALs that was projected for that was this one:
http://krzysiobal.com/carts/?action=view&id=88
though, the PAL was missing and as a result, it did not take any use of that.
Here, second PAL (configured in registered mode) is responsible for that, though no idea what clocks it. Should be PPU /RD maybe, but in the Sunsonic Cartridge above, it is clocked by some emitter follower (buffer) of PPU /RD
Image

*The first PAL acts as glue logic, for sure it inputs M2, /ROMSEL, A14, A13, maybe A12 too. Probably one or more of the data lines too, as it needs to output the value to tape recorder and inputs it.

If you have any other ideas, or know anything about ROM of this cartridge - that would be exteremely useful for hardware analysis.
I wrote to the author but no response.

Code: Select all

Info from his site:
It does not power on. Only the LED goes on when I hold the power button down. But doesn't seem to stay on. I'm using a 9v center negative power supply. It has a printer port. A datacasette port. And joystick ports.
It's brain is a UM6561B blob chip.
The 4 large characters on the computer I believe say "Private Teacher".

The company listed on the board of the cartridge is Shenzhen Tellus Electronics Co E&E.
