I never played Metroid or Castlevania, since I don't like the run'n'gun (run'n'whip) genre. I did play Zelda 1, and had no problem with the discovery in it, though I found it boring for other reasons. If you want to discuss those games, I guess we should open a new thread.

i also just played this game for around an hour. i'd give it a 9/10 from what i've seen so far.

pros

- this might be one of the most fully featured NES game i've ever seen, with a character inventory, maps, mini-games, and deep mechanics. i'm seriously impressed!

- the world itself is fairly fascinating, we find our hero in a post-apocalypse overrun with monsters, in a rural area where the known survivors keep in touch using ham radios.

- the art is well done, there is parallax scrolling that give you 3+ types of movement on a single screen, the music sounds good and is appropriate to the setting and game design. plus gameplay is fun and traversing through the world is generally painless.

- IMO, contrary to prior reviews, the game does a good job of teaching you. on the subject of hanging on ledges, there is an opening sequence to the game where you see a character jump and hang onto a ledge. less than a minute later, you encounter a ledge yourself and i was able to figure out what i was supposed to do and how to do it in about 10 seconds. this happens in an area where you can't be harmed, and get the chance to learn. then you encounter a more dangerous ledge a bit down the road that you can jump onto to take a bit of a shortcut. this is classic NES teaching method - give you a safe spot to learn something, then a more dangerous place where they can use the new ability optionally for a small bonus.

- another example where i learned fluidly in the game: at first i was picking up energy bars without paying attention to how much health they gave me, but then i realized, they weren't giving me any health at all! this encouraged me to pause the game, where i learned i had an inventory with items that could be used. as well as maps to help me see where i'd been and where i was trying to go.

- later on i picked up a rope, which was placed in my inventory. honestly, i groaned a little at this. now i have to remember that i have this object and figure out what it's for? nope. a minute later i encountered a pole at edge of a chasm, and the rope automatically attached itself so i could climb down. again, classic teaching method of showing, not telling. good work.

- full quiet is a very unique game. most NES games have very slow, visible projectiles. i like that full quiet uses instantaneous projectiles - they are faster even than in FPS games i've played! additionally, this is one of those rare games where you can aim diagonally, not just straight ahead. the developers are daring to create something new, and i find that exciting.

cons

- like many other people, i found fixing the fuse boxes to be a little unforgiving. the first ones should have a longer timer, to give you time to figure out what you're doing. these are quite similar to an old windows game that i believe was called "pipe dreams" from the early 90s.

- there are a few things that are unclear to me. while up and down arrows appear in places where pressing those buttons would do something (such as entering a door or interacting with an object), there is another prompt that is two arrows in a circle that kind of shows up randomly at times and doesn't seem to augur much in my experience. i'm not sure if i'm getting these as a bug or what. they are not overly distracting and don't detract from the gameplay much, but it is confusing.

In a web browser, two arrows in a circle mean reload the current page.

In Full Quiet, two arrows in a circle mean your weapon needs to be reloaded (if not bouncing) or is reloading (if bouncing).

I think its the best Game i played in Years and i love that its not one of those boring Games of nowadays where you just walk trough and watch nice graphics.. found the circuit repairs a bit hard first but i got used to it.. im still working my way trough it and will never take just a little look in a walktrough..
i really think its one of the top ten nes games ever..and i know a lot
Wish there were more games like this for nes or snes..
Thanks to the Developers for this Masterpiece!

I secretly hope that the Japanese Famicom version of this game will be released someday.
As a fan of Forbidden Siren 1, which is famous for being unfriendly to players, I quite like games that incorporate a lack of explanations and unfriendliness as a way to create tension.

- got stuck at the start for a few mins when couldn't reach ladder
- couldn't enter cabin? Time running out to the 2am deadline
- no info how to reload manually?
- got stuck in a trap and thought I died, but nothing happened so I thought the game hanged, it had the reload symbol (oh, spin?)
- well repair thing unexplainably killed me, no reason why
- the swing jumps are way too difficult, poorly executed controls and not explained at all
- evil respawn behavior
- dodge roll evade sometimes works and sometimes doesn't
- well repair thingy, the first such puzzle, is way too hard - even once I knew roughly how it works, it ran out of time many times

To sum it up, it feels like this game had no outside testing at all and was rushed. Things that may be obvious to the devs or poor controls will trip up new players easily.
I think it is the best homebrew on the NES, even after Micro Mages, and my favorite NES game after Mega Man 3. That said, I did have to restart it twice because of poor starts, like progressing too far without finding a map. WIth this game you have to get used to how morse code works.

1) Things that could be better:
- Not enough boss. I was expecting a Flying Boss on the cliff... Ah! Ok, not enough space to add anything else.
- You get the fast travel too late in the game. It's pretty useless, unless you want refill all the supplies to get 100%. It would have been a lot better if you can fast travel, once you get to the Island, to any camp that you already complete the 5 steps of radio. This way it would be useful.

2) Bugs:
- If you finish the boss when it hits you, your character becomes invisible. The only way to know where you are is to reload your ammo.
- When you jump away to your platform (to hit the boss or to go on another platform) and the next platform isn't the 1st green, it's instant death if the boss hit you!

3) If you find that the Swing jumps are way too difficult, use the roof of the cabin to pratice. It's really easy & fun.

4) I can't access the Wiki Guide link. Anyway... To get the special ending, you need to complete the game at 100%. The explore (x/238) stat don't matter.

5) Is it possible to hide some text in this forum? The BBCode for spoiler don't work.

This a fantastic & Unique game. It's one of the best NES games.

Congratulation!

PS: You're bad. At the start, if you follow the 1st path, it's really difficult (cliff, then the forest is even worst) for new players. I gave up on my 1st playtrough. But it's the best part of the game & I really appreciate to start by the end and finish to the start.
