I just got new notifications for being quoted in 2018.

Re: New notifications for old events
Could you provide more information? What post was the notification for, and was the notification an email or an alert in the corner of the forums?
This might just be phpBB being the old, somewhat buggy software that it is. There's nothing in the logs that would suggest why this might have happened, such as a deleted post. Perhaps this is related to the thread split I did recently, but it's hard to say. Let us know if you're seeing more of this, though.

Apparently when a post is edited, quoted users receive new notifications. That seems to have been the cause here.

Why did tepples edit 2018 posts, and why is there no note under the post saying it was edited?

Updating dead links maybe?
I think I've read some time ago that moderators' posts modified by themselves won't be shown as edited, even though the moderators didn't mean to do this discreetly.

Re: New notifications for old events
phpBB doesn't show edit notifications in two cases: edits by the author on the last post in a thread, and (unless explicitly opted into per edit!) edits by moderators. The latter is why tepples' edit to the second-to-last post doesn't have a notification. We'd prefer to have the moderator edits show notifications by default, but phpBB doesn't have such a setting. Compared to more modern solutions like xenforo, phpBB is lacking in a lot of ways.
The posts were edited to include more information and to update a username to match that person's new name. Dead links and typos are other reasons tepples sometimes edits old posts. Note that before now, I don't think any of us knew that editing posts with quotes would send out new notifications. I wouldn't be surprised if people do fewer edits now to avoid spamming others with notifications.

Re: New notifications for old events
FYI, we updated a couple dozen old posts to replace goo.gl links because goo.gl is being shut down soon. This likely triggered quote notifications for a few people, which you can ignore.

Thank you for being proactive about fixing links before they expire.
