Searching for a very old piece of NES Homebrew

Post by Cinossu »

Hello,

I'm on the hunt for a very old piece of NES homebrew that I remember from over 20 years ago. We're talking potentially pre-2000s, so I don't know if anyone will know of it, but I have been hunting for this for a long time at this point and would love to know if anyone else either remembers it or even still has it, somehow.

It was completely custom, and more of a story than anything playable. It had screens alternating between graphics and text. The story itself used SMB1 sprites and was about the ROM corrupting and the end of the world, and going to the dance at the end of oblivion or something along those lines. It had a singular music track through the whole thing, and I think it was an original piece for it too.. and then once it finished (it had some screens that just flashed singular colours) it would loop around to the beginning of the story again and.. that was it. Controls were just to proceed to the next frame of story image/text.

As said, we're talking potentially pre-2000s, or very early 2000s at the very least. If anyone has any leads on hunting it down, be it a name, an author, or even still have it, that would be amazing.

Thanks.

I think I remember what you're talking about. I believe it's just called "Mario Movie" and is from the mid-00s. I recall it being a minor phenomenon in the late acmlmboard era, so maybe some other oldbies from back then would know more.

After some digging I found the author's page for the project:

https://coryarcangel.com/things-i-made/ ... ario-movie

Does this match your memories?
