Lava RGB no IGR

Post by JJay45 »

I just installed the lava 2.0 RGB on a front loader. Everything went great but the IGR did not work. I know its wired up to the correct location and palette switching in game does work. What else can I do to troubleshoot? There was a jumper labeled rst_s so I closed it but that did nothing.

Any ideas would help. thanks

So I got ahold of someone from the lava store and they think my board probably has the famicom firmware. Has anyone ever updated the firmware on a lava board? They sent me an email but trying to translate it all.

check this page, did you connect the reset wire like that?

https://amaiorano.io/2025/09/03/lava-rgb.html

Due to the CIC chip, I am guessing that the front-loader needs reset inverted versus a Famicom. Driving reset high causes it to reset for the front-loader. If you can’t get a firmware fix for it, you may be able to build a small circuit to invert it. Since the reset button drives it directly to 5V, this will need to be considered, probably require a diode or something for that.

Basically, what gets connected to the NES should be:
  • Driving 5V when it wants to reset
  • Hi-Z when you don’t want to reset (NOT driving low.)
I am guessing the Famicom firmware is having it drive low when you try to do an IGR, so it is important not to press the actual reset button at the same time when you are attempting IGR if that’s the case.

I connected mine like he did but on the other side. I finally received my other lava front loader kit and it worked fine with the IGR. I did get the firmware to load as well but that made no difference. Lava is supposed to be sending me another board.

Thanks
