Where are getting our reprogrammable NES cartridges for homebrew these days?

Post by plainsteve »

Infinite NES Lives has been out of stock for... years?
Broke Studio will be "back in a few days" and its spawn, Homebrew Factory, is out of stock.

(I am based in the US.)

If you are doing mapper 30 carts you might like this one!

People have been requesting a production Mapper 30 flash cart programmer too. I kind of always thought this base was covered by 8bitheroes already but maybe there is still a need?

If you're willing to source your own components, do the soldering, and flash the chips, there's Muramasa and MouseBiteLabs.

Otherwise, there are a lot of N8 variants floating around (never tried them myself). There's also a "nes flashkit" on aliexpress I haven't seen before.

I would not recommend the kazzo flashcarts sold on aliexpress - the NROM one I and a few others got seem to be badly made to the point of being unusable. See here: viewtopic.php?p=303940#p303940

If you just need one GTROM board for testing/dev, I got permission from Joe to resell them individually to make the process simpler for acquiring one: https://www.bitethechili.com/developer-resources/

How do you reprogram them, or are they the kind that take an sd card?
