Seiken Densetsu 3 / Secret of Mana 2 multilingual

Post by magno »

Hi everyone,

I have programmed a full utility for translating Seiken Densetsu 3 into any languaje easily, no complex knowledge of romhacking needed; the only you need to know is how to edit tiles. The tool was created a year ago when I finished translating SD3 into Spanish but I have been all this time improving it to make it easier and more powerful.

Some features of this tool are:

- Translate the secret music test
- Translate the 8x8 city names that appears when flying with Flammy
- Translate the begining and ending credits
- Translate the full script up to about 700 kbytes of text (20% more text than the english
version due to a better script optimization and relocation)
- Translate all items and magics
- Translate the intro easily, with optimization of text tiles for it
- Select the best compression parameters for each kind of script size
- Change the 8x16 dialogue text font, the 8x8 menu text font and the 16x16 intro text font
- Change "The End" graphic
- Change "INN" graphic (both versions of this graphic)
- Change "PUB" graphic (all three versions of this graphic)
- Change "Seiken Densetsu 3" / "Secret of Mana 2" logo in the begining credits
- Change "MISS!" graphic and energy loss number font
- Change level up statistic graphics
- Change all menu graphics
- Correct the graphic bug in the STORE menu

If anybody is interested on this program, please contact me at traducciones.magno@gmail.com. Currently, the tool is being used to translate the game into Italian.

You can see some screenshots in my webpage, although is fully in Spanish. I think I could make some arbitrary changes to the script so anybody can see different text and graphics.

I'll do them right now and will show you.

Here you can see how new characters may be added to the game's charset and that you can locate enemy names as you like during battle.

Gimme. The German Translation is very buggy and likes to hang on real Hardware. Looks like the writers made one or two texts too long :-P I could try to redo it

Hi!

How much buggy is that german version? I would really like my tool to be used for translating the game to the most languages possible, but I don't really know if it would be good to have a lot of versions of the same language....

Some Person Constellations cannot be used to complete the game. If Carlie talks to the wise man in Wendel, the game just hangs up.

How good is the official translation of Seiken Densetsu 2 in Secret of Mana?

Many people say, quite bad. But as a child I did not know the Original English/Japanese one, only my German Translation, so I just can say you, its less text due to the longer words and sentences in German Language and some stuff had to be removed, while the text scroling did not change, so sometimes one page has ~3 words and that was it.

The french translation of Secret of Mana is pure crap. I didn't understand anything about the story and 80% of sentences are just a bunch of words that doesn't mean ANYTHING.
English translations looks decent, but I cannot say much more since I won't be able to repear english errors, and it always looks great compared to the crap french verison.

There is nobody translating the game into French with my utilities yet, so maybe you could be interested in doing it.

BTW, EmuandCo, I am doing some improvement to SD3Tool so I will send it to you when done. :D

SD3 has a quite decent fan french translation already up (by Terminus Traduction). I don't know if it were translated form an english fan translation or from japanese, but it looks playable at least (unlike SOM).

SD2 should be re-translated to french, but it would be worth it only if it were translated direcly from japanese, and I don't know japanese.

We were talking about Secret of Mana 2 here, so I thought you were talking about it in that sentence. No problem, anyway :D

SoM is a totally different issue and I haven't a powerful insertor for it.

magno. Can I open a ROM file and it loads the text out of this ROM or is it just a importer?

No, Jagansian and me were talking about Secet of Mana / Seiken Densetsu 2. Secret of Mana 2 doesn't ever exist, but I guess this refer to Seiken Densetsu 3. I mean that the OFFICIAL translation of SD2 (SOM) is pure crap, at least in french.
