These things all look like shit. Who wants an ugly enormous NES clone with crappy audio reproduction, slowdown, poor controls and reduced compatibility that is too bulky to even fit in your pocket? You can get similar compatibility from an NES emulator running on a machine that actually WILL fit your pocket, like a DS or GBA or PDA, and it'll probably manage better battery life in a lot of cases, too.

The forums are a laugh riot .. I mean look at this crap.

Microwave-sized 'portable' gamecubes that can run for a whopping 10 minutes on 4 AAs .. step right up ...

IIRC a unit with that config should draw ~2A, you can get >1 hour on a standard subc rechargeable pack (>=12V) or you can go the expensive route and use lipoly cells :P
Anyways, yeah, a lot of the portables turn out atrocious and the electronics aren't that complex, but it when the users actually put the right amount of work into something, it can come out nice, like http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/378/img14gs.jpg :P

Although thinking you're gonna fit a >8bit era portable modded console in your pocket is just silly :P IIRC my PS2p design (before the slim ps2, mine broke before I started modding it much) was about 10"x6"x2", which isn't too bad considering the era. The thing preventing the GC to be made thinner mainly is it's disc drive which is >2" thick IIRC (been awhile since I had one open)

Similar, but there are a lot of mappers that do work with these NOACs but not with PocketNES. Specifically, PocketNES has problems with MMC2/P*ROM (Punch-Out!!), RAMBO-1 (Klax), CPROM (Videomation), etc.

The only real obstacle to a GOOD pocket sized clone being made is trying to stick a cart slot on the thing; when an FC cart alone is going to be about the size of a reasonable handheld.. and an NES cart stuck on the thing is going to look ridiculous and it won't be very mechanically stable. If there were a LOT of games put on a multi-game ROM and wired up internally it'd work a lot better. But that isn't the route nearly anyone takes on the benheck forums which is pretty ridiculous-- they're enormous cumbersome devices that you haphazardly stick an NES cart on top of that end up making the Nomad look tiny and pocket-sized in comparison.

But in that case, you may as well just get a PSP with a NES emulator and ROMs. The point of these is not practicality, slimline design, it's to be able to use your cartridges on the road.

Well, even if they did add them, odds are we'd remove the post since rom/modchip/etc talk on the forums is for the most part not allowed :P

No ROM talk, but we had that topic about the CIClone modchip.

Well, I meant the benheck.com forums, but sure, applies here to a point too :P
