My Burning Question.

Post by nineTENdo »

I finnaly got around to burning some chips but then i realized that my sockets dont fit in the 256k NROM 28 pins

Im using a 32 pin socket and a http://www.futurlec.com/Memory/AT29C040.shtml

ive looked at the pin out and it looks like i need pretty much everything there except maybe the the CE and WE bars. but that still leaves 2 pins. i was under the assumption that i didnt need to rewire when using the NROM

do i just need another NROM.

please let me know sages of parodius.

p.s. dont slap me for not doing the link mod thing i couldnt do it:)

Nrom boards only use 28pin chips,

you could probably use your 32pin ones with a bit of rewiring or just order some new 28pin chips its up to you

I have a few AT29C256 that work great with NROM without rewiring. About the larger chips (the ones with 32 pins), they do not work with any regular boards without some rewiring. So, if you're not up to the task, you're stuck with NROM (and CNROM, IIRC).

i think im just gonna rewire. i figure i could get rid of the 15-18 address pins. plus they take hela long to get here.

those AT29C256 would be good. but i only find the TSOP package on futurelec. unless thats the only data sheet they provide.

I bought mine from them, and they had the other packaging type. If you look closely, even the TSOP type seems to be out of stock.

Another type of chip I was able to use without any rewiring on NROM boards is the W27C512, which you can find at sivava. It is 64KBytes, not 32, but still has only 28 pins. Just replicate the data you are burning to fill the whole space and it should work fine. It is not Flash though, it's EEPROM I think. But it's just as easy to rewrite, if not easier, than Flash. If your burner supports them, you should get some of these.
