How to test if a ROM will work on the real hardware.

Hello guys,
I am currently working slowly towards making reproductions for the SNES of Japanese games with an English translation patch applied.
I see that a lot of translation patch comes with hacks that affects the visual design, change menus layout and in some case add text panel during game conversations to allow more space to English text.
Those patches works good on an emulator, but would all these changes risk of preventing the game to work on the real hardware? Is there any way to know for sure if a rom+patch will be working on a real SNES?
Thank you for your time.

You could try running the game first in bsnes and then in a copier like what Tototek.com sells.

so BSNES would be the emulator that is the most accurate when it comes down to real SNES hardware?
As for the flash cart at Tototek, if I understand how they work, you plug them in your PC, transfer the file and then it's plug-n-play in your regular SNES? Would a flash cart like that support games that uses advanced chips like let's say Starfox 2?
Thank you for your reply.

No the Tototek nor any other device will run special chip games like Super FX. BSNES is the most accurate SNES emulator available. If it works in BSNES, there's a pretty good chance it will work on the real SNES. The best way to test would be a Cartridge with EPROM or FlashROMs. The next best would be the Tototek Flash Cart or a Backup Device like the Game Doctor SF series.
With a backup device like a GDSF you can send roms directly from your PC to your SNES and play them. But all these methods won't play games like Star Fox.

I have an SNES clone system with a copier built it, I could test it for you. It's not a real SNES, but I noticed when I was coding that it was less forgiving than ZSNES.

Yeah, it is. The Lik-Sang company gave it to me when they sponsored a programming contest back in 2000, for an NES demo I wrote. It's seen a lot of use.
